AAPHD Councils and CommitteesAAPHD operates and makes progress on its strategic goals through the work of four councils and nine committees. The committees are of the board and specified in the bylaws to ensure the successful operations of AAPHD, including finance, membership, communications, and other operational needs. The councils lead the strategic activities of AAPHD, including providing leadership on the National Oral Health Conference program, creating and sharing resources with AAPHD members on topics of importance to dental public health, and other strategic activities. Engaged, passionate dental public health professionals lead the work of these groups. More information about each of the committees and councils is below. Councils Each council has the following duties with respect to the subject matter for which each council is responsible:
COUNCIL ON EDUCATIONAL AFFAIRS The purpose of the Council on Educational Affairs is to provide high quality continuing education opportunities that reflect the latest advances in science, and support the efforts of the AAPHD in the education of the public, health professionals, and decision-makers regarding the importance of oral health to total well-being. The Council also develops and evaluates programs to support leadership and talent development among AAPHD members. COUNCIL ON PRACTICE AND WORKFORCE The purpose of the Council on Practice and Workforce is to monitor and share public health dentistry-related workforce trends, and engage and support all types of professionals who are involved in promoting population oral health. COUNCIL ON POLICY AND ADVOCACY The purpose of the Council on Policy and Advocacy is to monitor policy developments relevant to dental public health on the national landscape, serve as a resource to members and partners on DPH-related advocacy efforts at the state and local levels, and share information and educational offerings with members to enhance policy knowledge and advocacy skills. The Council also pursues and proposes to the Board opportunities for AAPHD to participate in the policy process in legislative, regulatory, and grassroots capacities. COUNCIL ON SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION The purpose of the Council on Scientific Information is to develop scientific resources highlighting and summarizing evidence on key DPH issues, respond to DPH research-related requests for information on behalf of AAPHD, develop and update the DPH research agenda, and monitor and share DPH-related research initiatives and scientific advancements to AAPHD membership. Committees AAPHD Committees ensure successful and equitable operations of the association in order to meet strategic goals, including membership engagement and growth, financial sustainability, and other operational needs. FINANCE COMMITTEE The Finance Committee is responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability of AAPHD, including developing and monitoring the organizational annual budget, and is chaired by the AAPHD Board Treasurer. EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE The charge of the EDI committee is to embed and maintain equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice-building practices into the culture and operations of AAPHD. The committee strives for an organizational culture that fosters equity in members’ voice and sense of belonging, and supports AAPHD members to actively incorporate equity-focused activities in their own work. MEMBERSHIP & ETHICS COMMITTEE The Membership Committee is responsible for AAPHD membership growth and engagement and organizing activities for members’ benefits. COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE BYLAWS COMMITTEE The Bylaws Committee is responsible for ensuring the organization is abiding by its bylaws, and leading any bylaws updates as necessary, and is chaired by the AAPHD Board Secretary. NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE The Nominations Committee is responsible for managing the nominations process and selection of subsequent board members. JOINT REFERENCE COMMITTEE The JRC is composed of chairs/co-chairs of the four AAPHD Councils and is chaired by the AAPHD Board President-Elect, who acts as a conduit between the councils and the Board. This committee identifies opportunities for cross-council collaboration and serves as a conduit between the Councils and the AAPHD Board. FOUNDATION COMMITTEE The Foundation Committee is responsible for leading and managing the activities of the AAPHD Foundation, including fundraising and grantmaking. AWARDS COMMITTEE The Awards Committee is responsible for managing the nominations and awarding process for all AAPHD Awards, which are presented at the National Oral Health Conference. |
