AAPHD Membership

Membership in AAPHD is open to all individuals concerned with improving the oral health of the public. There are several membership categories based upon affiliation in dental public health. 

All membership categories are on a calendar year basis, January 1-December 31. While AAPHD does not prorate membership dues, anyone who joins/renews after October 1 will receive the remainder of the calendar year as well as the next calendar year for the same membership fee.

Individual Membership Categories:


 

Dentist (Full) Member - $275

An individual who is a dentist with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (“DDS”),  Doctor Dental Medicine (“DMD”) or equivalent degree (ex. BDS) from an accredited dental school (or equivalent thereof) and: 

  • has completed a CODA-accredited advanced education program in dental public health or has sufficient experience in public health dentistry (as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors and the ABDPH); or
  • is a Diplomate, in good standing, of ABDPHor
  • has a degree in public health-related field (ex. MPH, DrPH, MSc); or
  • has an interest in dental public health.

Full Memberships may be classified as: Contributing, Sustaining or Sponsoring. Primary Members who, in lieu of the regular dues, pay a stipend to support Association’s activities; advocacy and policy development activities; and infrastructure.  Categories paying dues above $275 are making a tax deductible contribution to the Association.

Dentist (Full) Contributing Member - $305

This membership category receives the benefits of full membership but also provides support for AAPHD ongoing activities (webpage, social media, newsletter, action alerts, etc.)

Dentist (Full) Sustaining Member - $330

This membership category receives the benefits of full membership but also provides support and ongoing sustaining funds for advocacy and policy development.

Dentist (Full) Sponsoring Member - $385

This membership category receives the benefits of full membership but also provides support for AAPHD infrastructure and staffing of committees.


Benefits of Dentist (Full) member:

  1. Serve on the Association’s committees, councils, and task forces, 
  2. May be elected to serve on the Board of Directors.
  3. Voting privileges in AAPHD Board of Directors elections and amendment of Bylaws, 
  4. Receive print and electronic publication of Journal of Public Health Dentistry
  5. Access to members-only sections of the website, 
  6. Members' rates for registration at the National Oral Health Conference (NOHC)

Associate Member - $200

Any non-dentist individual who has an interest in dental public health.  Examples of individuals that qualify include, but are not limited to, dental assistants, dental hygienists, dental therapists, physicians, nurses, academic researchers, administrators, etc.

Benefits of Associate Member:

  1. Serve on the Association’s committees, councils, and task forces, 
  2. May be elected to serve as an Associate Member Liaison on the Board of Directors.  
  3. Voting privileges in Associate Member Liaison elections.
  4. Receive print and electronic publication of Journal of Public Health Dentistry, 
  5. Access to members-only sections of the website,
  6. Members' rates for registration at the National Oral Health Conference (NOHC).

Dental Resident or Student - $55

An individual currently enrolled at least 50% time in an educational program and in good standing.   Categories include:

Dental Public Health Resident Member 

An individual who is enrolled at a CODA-accredited Dental Public Health Advanced Education Program.

Other Dental Resident Member

Any individual who is enrolled in a CODA-accredited Advanced Education Program (does not include fellowships as they are post-residency programs).

Student Member 

Any individual currently enrolled and in good standing at any:

  • accredited predoctoral dental (DDS/DMD) program; or
  • accredited dental hygiene program, dental assisting program, dental therapy program; or
  • school of medicine, nursing, public health; or
  • other such accredited educational institutions.

Benefits of Resident/Student Member:

  1. Serve on the Association’s committees, councils, and task forces;
  2. Receive electronic publication Journal of Public Health Dentistry;
  3. Access the members-only sections of the website; and
  4. Resident/Student Member rates for registration at the National Oral Health Conference (NOHC)

Life Member - $0

An AAPHD Dentist or Associate member in good standing, who has achieved 20 years of continuous membership at the Dentist or Associate level; and is no longer practicing public health or preventive dentistry. Is no longer practicing or receiving compensation in public health.

Please complete the Lifetime Membership Application and submit it to the AAPHD office at [email protected] for review. You will be notified upon approval of you application. 

Benefits of Life Member:

  • Serve on the Association’s committees, councils, and task forces, as well as chair such committees, councils or task forces;
  • Receive electronic publication of Journal of Public Health Dentistry;
  • Access to members-only sections of the website; and
  • Receive member rates for registration at the National Oral Health Conference.

Institutional Membership

Any corporation or other organization that provides services or products to the dental public health community or a DPH residency program, a school of dentistry/dental medicine, or other health professional schools. This membership category has three (3) tiers and provides institutions with the following advantages:

Tier 1: $1000

  • Complimentary membership for 3 people
  • 1 complimentary full page career posting annually
  • Link to their organization’s website on AAPHD website.

Tier 2: $3000

  • Complimentary membership for 5 people (faculty, student, residents, staff) 
  • Up to 3 complimentary full page career postings annually
  • Link to their organization’s website on AAPHD website.

Tier 3: $5000

  • Complimentary membership for 10 people (faculty, student, residents, staff) 
  • Up to 4 complimentary full page career posting annually
  • Link to their organization’s website on AAPHD website.

Additional Benefits:
